About us:

NRGene Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of NRGene Ltd., a publicly traded Israeli company (TASE:NRGN). NRGene’s mission is to develop better crops for agriculture by applying the most advanced genomic analysis technology to accelerate natural breeding (non-GMO). NRGene Canada is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where it operates as an R&D center applying NRGene’s technology towards applications such as genotyping and the development of new traits in canola plants and other organisms.

About this position:

We seek a highly motivated Research Technician to join our growing Canadian team. As a Research Technician you will take part in our expanding activities in operating projects in the lab, field, greenhouses and growth chambers. In addition, you will help the company equip our customers with cutting-edge genomic solutions.

* This is an on-site position in Saskatoon, Canada and is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and those with Canadian work permit holders. Applicants with work permit holders must include a copy of the permit in the application.

Responsibilities:

  • Involvement in research projects in the field, greenhouses and the lab.
  • Responsible for greenhouse and growth chambers operation, including planting, watering, managing growth conditions (e.g. vernalization), emasculations, crossing, seed harvest, storage preparation, and sample preparation from leaf tissue for DNA analyses.
  • Maintaining plant health by monitoring the temperature, humidity, and light levels of the greenhouses/growth chambers.
  • Monitoring plant growth rates, fertilizing plants, and watering them as needed.
  • Conducting research on new plant species to determine which ones would be best suited for growing in specific conditions or climates.
  • Preparing seeds for shipment for new plantings.
  • Participate in other administrative and operational activities.

The preferred applicant would have the following qualifications:

  • BSc/MSc (or equivalent) in life sciences or closely related technical fields of scientific research.
  • 2+ years of experience working on breeding technique;
  • 2+ years of managing greenhouse/growth chamber
  • Willingness and ability to work unconventional hours when required (including weekends, after regular working-day hours and holidays).
